Admin Role at Mamma Jamma's DOD Servers

The role of an admin is a special one
It falls to our Admins to ensure that Mamma Jamma servers provide an environment that cultivates a sense of teamplay and community spirit in keeping with our philosophy that all players (skills, ages, etc.) are welcomed and to be respected.
We believe that admin attitude is essential to the success of our servers.
Admins who foster team play and community spirit within our servers are doing what is needed to keep our servers free from disruptive, abusive or cheating players. We count upon our admins to serve by example to maintain a respectful server environment wherein all players are treated on an equal and fair basis.
Peacekeepers, not police
We don't want our admins to be agressively prowling on the hunt for problems players/cheaters. We don't want our admins to be scrutinizing everyone with magnifying glasses, blowing each and every little infraction out of proportion. That sort of admining pollutes the server and creates problems for everyone.
Of course, there will be always be a few asshat players who consistently behave in a maner that wears out their welcome. When problem players makes themselves negatively stand out and are wrecking the server environment, we expect our admins to act decisively and to show them to the door.
However, admin's main task is not so much to be hyper-vigilantly on investigatiions to catch cheaters, but rather to put an effective muzzle on the asshats who are being racist, derogatory, and/or making cheat accusations. There are way more problems from players who cause trouble as jerks on our servers, then there are players who are cheaters. So as admins our principle role is to keep the tone of the servers friendly and fun within a context of good gaming competativeness.
Communication, not confrontation
Remember being an Admin is not just a title or possessing "power". You must act the part as well, in order to set the tone and example for other players and new users on the servers. As an admin you set a much more prominent example and your players will take their cue from that. The bywords of our admins must be PATIENCE, and a DESIRE TO EDUCATE rather than punish. Inside every “n00b KAR whore’ or absolute newbie is an important member of the community. We do not want power-tripping admins.
An admin is not necessarily required to be conspicuous to be effective, especially when participating in games. Avoid showing anger, retaliating with abuse, or rising to the taunts or actions of a disruptive player – try to remain detached and professional at all times. Also, be polite - social skills are one of the most important weapons in an effective server admin´s armoury.
We are a very forgiving server and we try to encourage decent player behaviour instead of coming down like a ton of bricks on every little infraction. But our expectations for admin behaviours is far higher, and less forgiving. What decent behaviours we expect from players is even more true and vital for the Admins.
Admins serve the community
The job of Admin is a responsibility, NOT a position of privilege. You are trusted by the players to look after their interests; and by the Mamma Jamma community to ensure that our servers stay friendly, fun places to play. Be sure that you have our players´ best interests at heart.
We hope these guidelines can enable us to to offer a consistently high quality level of administration to all who play in the Mamma Jamma servers.
Admin Code of Conduct
If we were going to have an Admin Code of Conduct at Mamma Jamma's it would go something like this:
- I will not use cheats nor encourage their use by others. Under no circumstances will I verbally assault the suspected cheater or in any other way disrupt play. If I think it warrents a ban request I will document the suspected cheater with SteamID, screenshots, demo, etc. A high burden of proof is expected from admins because cheat bans is not a frivolous matter.
- I will not take advantage of bugs nor encourage others to do so. If I suspect someone of abusing a bug, I will psay them and request that they stop. I will also use tsay commands to remind players that exploits are not allowed. If that fails, I will directly psay the offender, then kick. Under no circumstances will I verbally assault the disruptive player or in any other way disrupt play.
- I will at no time act in a rude or disruptive manner. If I observe such behaviour online, I may use tsay to message the server in a general manner about abusive behaviour in the hopes that the offender will cease. If that fails, I will directly psay the offender, then kick. Under no circumstances will I verbally assault the disruptive player or in any other way disrupt play. (Newbie players are NOT disruptive players. I will be especially helpful to newbies. I was a newbie once, and asked all the same questions and made many of the same mistakes.)
- I will not engage in racist behaviour, use racist names, or make racist comments. If I observe such behaviour online, I may comment on it with tsay briefly in the hopes that the offender will cease. If that fails, I will psay, then kick. Under no circumstances will I verbally assault the disruptive player or in any other way disrupt play.
- I will not engage in sexist behaviour, make abusive comments about women, or use denigrating terms regarding sexual orientation. If I observe such behaviour online, I may tsay comment on it generally in the hopes that the offender will cease. If that fails, I will psay, then kick. Under no circumstances will I verbally assault the disruptive player or in any other way disrupt play.
- I will strive to participate and encourage team play. I will make use of, and encourage the use of by others, the many tools provided within Day of Defeat to make this possible including voice signals, hand signals, and voice communications. Wherever possible, I will encourage the active use of team tactics.
- I will lead by example. In playing honourably I represent not only myself, but also the Mamma Jamma servers/community; in behaving dishonourably I dishonour not only myself, but the Mamma Jamma community as well. I will strive to provide the players around me with a better game and promote an honourable style of play.
Please remember: As a Mamma Jamma Admin you are not the police. It is not for us to tell people how to play or what not to do. Rather ours are the roles of setting an example and educating the others in good gaming.
Have fun, and encourage others to do so.
Suggested Admin Best Practices
Conversation between an Admin (in their Admin role) and a player on the server should only be conducted through psay. This removes any personal comeback, as the disruptive player has no way of knowing who the Admin is. If a disruptive player persists to disrupt the server, tell the disruptive player he will be kicked or banned if he continues. If a player continues with disruptive activity, kick them off the server.
If a disruptive player returns and continues to disrupt, tell them they are about to be banned. Follow that through. If you are seen to back down you will lose authority over the whole server. We can use temporary bans. Or we can use permanent bans.
Permanent bans, i.e. bans for disruption of a serious nature -the worst of the worst- should be requested of/reported to Mamma Jamma or HappinessIsaWarmGun or written up in the Forum "Problem Players" category with accompanying Steam IDs, screenshots, demos, or other verifiable evidence.
Dealing with disruptive players can be summarised as:
· 1st offence: warning
· 2nd offence: strong warning
· 3rd offence: kick
· 4th offence: ban
